Background
eRA Commons is an online interface where grant applicants, grantees and federal staff at NIH and grantor agencies can access and share administrative information relating to research grants
Research
At the start of the project, my design research was focused on learning about project requirements from stakeholders, and learning about the needs and goals of the end users. The main goal of my research was to familiarize and inform the design process with the perspective of the target user.

Through the eRA commons site, I was able to locate a journey map. This allowed me to understand the overall experience of the customers at different interaction points. Since I am limited by time, I decided to focus on the first step in the users journey - creating an account through the eRA commons site.

I focused on brainstorming the main points that I would be focused on improving on throughout my design process
User Personas
In order to create my personas, I utilized the information from my research to conceptualize two different personas. I referred back to these users during my design process to make sure their needs were being met.

Brainstorming possible changes, improvements, preparing for wireframing.

Wireframes
helps communicate the structure of your app or website to the relevant stakeholders.

Building a Design system

I put together a basic design system for myself to utilize throughout the prototyping process.
Prototypes
Early model of a product that focuses on functionality and gives your stakeholders a taste of the final version.
